Net Price Calculator

Use our Net Price Calculator to understand the cost of attending NIU, personalized to you and your financial situation. It takes less than 5 minutes complete and allows you to look at the cost by term, annually or over the course of your college career.

Access NIU's Net Price Calculator

This calculator is intended to provide estimated net price information. Net price is defined as the estimated cost of attendance (including tuition and required fees, books and supplies, housing, food and other related expenses), minus estimated grant and scholarship aid. The results are based on what similar students paid in a previous year.

Please note the following:

  • The calculator requires that you enter citizenship status to receive an estimate. All data entered on the calculator is encrypted for security, and citizenship status is never shared with NIU.
  • This calculator uses institutional formulas, costs and aid programs from 2024-2025. Future formulas, costs and aid programs may vary.
  • Illinois residents eligible for the State of Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) will receive a full award amount as an estimate. Actual MAP grant amounts will vary based on financial qualifications, state formulas, and state appropriations.
  • Students must be admitted to or currently enrolled at NIU, and complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid in order to be eligible for, and receive, an actual financial aid offer letter from NIU.

Sticker Price vs. Net Price

While a college's sticker price includes all estimated costs for one academic year, your actual cost (net price) is typically much lower. To calculate your net price, subtract all grants and scholarships from the sticker price.

Cost of Attendance

Cost of Attendance (COA) estimates your total college expenses for a semester or year, including tuition, fees, books, housing, transportation and personal expenses. This amount determines the maximum financial aid you can receive, including loans, during your enrollment period.
