Scholarship Renewal for Current Students

If you received a merit scholarship at the time of admission, or were awarded an additional scholarship or grant based upon your FAFSA or Rise Application, here’s what you need to do to maintain your eligibility.

Merit Scholarship Renewal Criteria

Merit Scholarships require continuous full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester and the minimum cumulative GPA indicated below:

  • Presidential Scholarship: 3.3 GPA and participation in the University Honors Program
  • Transfer Merit: 2.75 GPA*
  • Freshman Merit: 2.75 GPA*

Please contact the Scholarship Office if you had previously lost your merit scholarship but now meet the renewal criteria, and would like to request that your merit scholarship be reinstated.


AIM HIGH Renewal Criteria

AIM HIGH Huskie Pledge Grant

Renewal criteria for the AIM HIGH Huskie Pledge Grant:

  • Continuous full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester.
  • Maintain an NIU cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Meet all standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • You have not attempted 135 credit hours or earned a degree.
  • Meet all criteria as outlined by the State of Illinois AIM HIGH program.
  • The renewability of this scholarship is contingent on future state appropriation and funding for the AIM HIGH program.

AIM HIGH Freshman Excellence or AIM HIGH Transfer Excellence Award

Renewal criteria (fall 2019):

  • Continuous full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester.
  • Maintain an NIU cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
  • Make Satisfactory Academic Progress. Please see policy for detailed information.
  • Meet all other AIM HIGH criteria.
  • The renewability of this scholarship is contingent on future state appropriation and funding for the AIM HIGH program.

AIM HIGH Transfer Achievement Award

Renewal criteria (fall 2020 and beyond):

  • Continuous full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester.
  • Maintain an NIU cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
  • Make Satisfactory Academic Progress. Please see policy for detailed information.
  • Meet all other AIM HIGH criteria.
  • The renewability of this scholarship is contingent on future state appropriation and funding for the AIM HIGH program.
